SZG thrives in the forging of impressive atmospheres, showing profound dedication to his craft. “Turn Up The Bass”, a quartet of 4/4 bass-driven tracks, is a sound example of his diligence and efforts to stir the emotions of a club.
“Toma Sentadão” phenomenal groove is accentuated by Brazilian funk-styled vocals and erects itself as a much needed blend between genres. The sweeping drone saturates the listener with a stirring euphoria, reminiscent of the very origins of techno music or a firm nod to the roots of electronic music, that pairs surprisingly well with the erotic chants’ playfulness.
Determined to thread a path towards cavernous sonic landscapes, SZG brings out the big guns with “We Skank In The Rave”: the swelling bass overrides the ear while distortions torrent into each other and, as the track climaxes, we see the artists’ primal urges to incinerate the dancefloor take over.
“Vou Sentando e Rebolando” asserts itself as the opener’s twin brother, rupturing through the stereo field as an intense invitation to feast on a banquet of electronic textures.
The track exudes a palpable synergy that is exhausted and exploited with the title track “Turn Up The Bass”. As it obliterates everyone’s stamina reservoirs, the track is triumphant in bringing the EP to a full circle moment.
These tracks may have been written in a cabin in Lake Tahoe (for real!) but they sound like they could score a rave at the end of the world. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 22, 2022
